Opportunities

While we wait for more artists to get on board with Purchase Progress, there are still plenty of ways to get some killer publicity. I'm getting ready to launch a weekly podcast, but I need tracks to feature (a new one each week) and give free publicity to! If you're a musician (or know a musician who might be interested in getting some free publicity,) contact me and/or send me one of your favorite tracks (that you own the rights to.)

Opportunities

While we wait for more artists to get on board with Purchase Progress, there are still plenty of ways to make the world a better place. One way to make a difference in the lives of those who need our compassion most right now is to donate your used paperbacks to Operation Paperback. Operation Paperback is a wonderful organization that brings your used reading material to the troops overseas.

Opportunities

While we wait for more artists to get on board with Purchase Progress, there are still plenty of ways to make the world a better place. In your quest to find ways, you might find yourself worn down by the resistance you encounter from others and from the flawed system around us. I know I can't stay optimistic all the time! Here's a compilation of "activism cards" with inspirational phrases to get you pumped up again (or that you can use to inspire others either online or offline!)

About/Mission

The world needs your help. Are you up to the challenge?

Purchase Progress was created by E.S. Wynn, chief editor of Thunderune Publishing and author of over thirty published books, as a place where individuals with a few bucks and a desire to make progressive change in the world can buy from artists willing to make those changes. Take a look around, see what some of our artists have pledged to do to make the world a better place and drop a few dollars on quality, independent art knowing it will manifest as progress toward a world we can all enjoy equally.

Spread the word! We might not always have the time to change the world, but we can always Purchase Progress.

Artist Submission

Purchase Progress is open to all artists and to those who create all forms of art. Authors, poets, musicians, painters, sculptors and all others (including experimental artists and polymath artists) are encouraged to enter to be spotlighted on the site! A new artist is spotlighted every Saturday.

How to submit: Fill out the form below and send it (and the application donation via paypal) to:

earl.wynn@gmail.com

The application donation ($20) is currently halved to $10 until January 1st, 2012! (Find out where this donation goes by visiting the F.A.Q. page.) If, for some reason, your application is rejected or never received, don't worry-- your donation will be refunded. (make sure to send your application from the same email as your paypal address or make a note in the paypal donation stating the name of the artist it is for so things don't get mixed up!)

APPLICATION:

Name: (include any pen names if you wish)

About Me: (type a short bio of your achievements, accolades, artistic styles, techniques, etc. Anything that defines you)

My Pledge: (This is the most important part-- here you make a promise to do certain things if you sell enough art to meet these goals. Fill out each category below. Remember, this is your selling point. This is where you motivate people to buy your art!)

If I reach:
  • $50:
  • $100:
  • $500:
  • $1,000:
  • $5,000:
  • $10,000:
My Ultimate Goal: (What would you do to make the world a better place if you had (potentially) millions of dollars?)

Where To Buy: (website link(s) required. This can be your own personal website, your store on Etsy, Ebay, DeviantArt, Kindle or any other website where you actively sell your art.)

Results: (There is no need to fill this out now, but if you reach a pledge target, your audience is going to expect you to follow through! Send statements, pictures, or anything else relevant to you keeping your promise to the people to the submission email with the word "AFFIRMATIONS" in the subject line. It will be placed on the site in the Affirmations section as soon as possible!)

Include a picture of yourself as well!

Want to see an example of how this form can be filled out? Check out the Past Artists page!

Have a question? The answer might be over in the F.A.Q. page!

E.S. Wynn

Name: E.S. Wynn

About Me: My name is Earl S. Wynn. In some places, they call me "The Wind," and in others, the Space Cowboy, but here on Earth, I'm known as the man with the plan, and my plan is to write, and to do it well. I am the author of over thirty books, the chief editor of Thunderune Publishing, the sole creative force behind its 20+ imprints on the Thunderune Network (including the flash fiction magazines  Weirdyear, Yesteryear Fiction, Farther Stars Than These Flaming Filmreel, Purchase Progress, and Smashed Cat Magazine) the author of over a hundred and fifty articles, several hundred short stories (published under nearly as many pen names) and a voice actor with over fifteen albums of literature and guided meditation under my belt. As of 2011, I am 26, engaged, and the proud owner of a B.A. in English. It is my belief that everyone is capable of miracles and that everyone is as unstoppable as they choose to be.

My Pledge:

If I reach:

  • $50: I will turn my backyard into a victory garden and grow local, sustainable foods.
  • $100: I will add another 100 free writing prompts to the writing resources section of my blog.
  • $500: I will hold several free guided meditation classes in the Sacramento area.
  • $1,000: I will open a new magazine (comment below on what kind you would like to read!)
  • $5,000: I will put $2500 of this into Thunderune Publishing, allowing me to reopen consideration for the book submissions of new authors and to start publishing them.
  • $10,000: I will create an epic and unique work of art with a progressive message, make it free to download, then put it into the creative commons. (Suggestions on what this piece of art should be are welcome!)
My Ultimate Goal: It is my aim in life to break down the barriers between artists and the success necessary for them to be able to support themselves entirely with their art. I envision a future where work no longer exists in the form that we know it, where work is the progress where passions are followed and all that is drudgery is done by machines, where everyone all over the world can do the work they want to do, in the quantities they want to, according to their own schedule, and still be guaranteed food, running water, electricity and all other necessary amenities of a modern life. It is possible, and I plan to do everything I can to bring about such a future.

Where To Buy: Visit Thunderune Publishing to buy books by E.S. Wynn: http://www.thunderune.com

Results: Check the Affirmations section for the results of this artist's sales.

F.A.Q.

Frequently Asked Questions (F.A.Q.):

Where does the application donation go?
  • Every artist's application donation goes toward the maintenance costs not only of this site, but also of the entire Thunderune Network. The Thunderune Network is a network of magazines, resources, free fiction and community oriented sites built and operated by E.S. Wynn, chief editor of Thunderune Publishing. Each of these sites was constructed with the aim of making a better future for all, especially authors, poets, musicians and other artists, regardless of race, creed, orientation or nationhood.
My Application was rejected! Why?
  •  I consider it a personal goal to bring as many artists into Purchase Progress as possible, but sometimes an application comes in that just isn't a good fit with the site. Don't worry, rejection is rare, and all application donations sent in with rejected applications will be returned to their senders. The most common reason for rejection is usually writing something like "I'll drink a beer if I reach my $100 target" or "I'll drive around in the woods for a while if I reach my $500 target." Pledges like these show a lack of commitment to making positive change in the world.
Will you take any form of art at all?
  • As long as you've got a link to sell it through, any form of art at all is fine. Note: unfortunately, at this time, the site cannot accept anything which would be unsafe for viewing at work (nude photography, erotica, hate crimes, etc.)
I can't think of any good ideas for pledges. Can you help me?
  • There are lots of ways to make positive change in the world! You could start a community garden or help with a reforestation project, volunteer to work with the homeless, pick up garbage along a local freeway, organize a peaceful protest, donate to a charity, hug a hundred people and tell them how awesome they are, adopt a pet from a shelter, volunteer to teach others a skill you have mastered, cheer people up at retirement homes, commit to making a regular positive change (like recycling, walking to work instead of driving, or donating food), become the pen pal of a number of lonely people (like soldiers, inmates, firefighters, teenagers or distant friends.), start (or expand) a home business, organization or non-profit with a mission to create positive change for others. These are just a few ideas! You can visit the Past Artists page to get more ideas too!
How do I know my purchase made a difference?
  • Just purchasing a book, print, album or other work of art from an artist on this site makes a difference. Every sale brings a smile to a struggling or unknown artist's face and motivates them to do more for the world that loves them enough to buy the work they have created. Adhering to pledges is the responsibility of the artists that make them, and it may take a while to reach a set goal, but periodically Purchase Progress receives proof that these pledges have been met. You can find these in the Affirmations section.

The Thunderune Network

Thunderune Publishing was founded in 2005 by Author E.S. Wynn as a means of bringing new life into an aging publishing industry. His vision was (and still is) to provide an ethical alternative to the current model and hasten the approach to a future where publishing companies are run by and for the artists, authors, musicians (and their fans) instead of by businesses only looking to make a quick buck.

But no man is an island, and he can’t do it all alone. Here are some reasons why you can feel good about buying books from E.S. Wynn and Thunderune Publishing.

  • Thunderune Publishing was founded by (and is currently run by) one guy. One really dedicated, idealistic (and tired) guy who puts 40-60 hours a week into expanding and maintaining the Thunderune Network.

To help Thunderune grow (and keep a worthy cause alive!) please consider picking up a gift for yourself (or someone else) in the store! Every purchase puts a smile on my face!

Thanks!
Founder E.S. Wynn

Victory Garden!

Artist E.S. Wynn says:

"Here it is! As promised, one victory garden in my backyard! Most of the plants are still seedlings, but I've planted spinach, eggplant, beans, peas, carrots, radishes, lettuce and a potato. My wife and I picked up a mandarin orange, a cilantro and stevia from Morningsun Herb Farm to add to our little garden as well. The soil is a mixture of vegetable compost and chicken manure donated by the free range, antibiotic-free chickens at my mother's farm. Here's to locally-grown, sustainable food!"

Thanks E.S. Wynn!
